Minister for State for Works and Housing Muazu Sammbo says that there’s a N3 billion Sukuk Fund by the federal government to help with the rehabilitation of Numan Jalingo Road between Taraba and Adamawa states.

Mr Sambo made this announcement on Saturday, during an inspection for federal roads projects in Taraba and Adamawa.

He assured him that if the Sukuk funds were accessed in a timely manner, the site would see remarkable progress.

“The 103 kilometre Numan-Jalingo road is part of the Maiduguri -Calabar Highway,” Mr Sambo said.

The minister said that he would not blame the contractor for the slow pace of work, attributing it to the insufficient budgetary provision in the past and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said however that the contractor would be expected to maintain its equipment with improved funding and take a more serious approach to the construction.

While briefing the minister about the status of the Numan- Jalingo Road project, Maria Zirrah (Federal Controller of Works Adamawa) stated that insecurity and a lack of funding as well as construction materials were the reasons for slow progress.

Frank Koshihuk spoke for the contractor and said that inflation, financing, insecurity, and security were all major challenges to the construction industry.

Mr Koshihuk said that the work would begin within eight months if the funding structure for rehabilitation was improved.
