Jason Wu is seeing sales rise since this spring. We all seem to agree that we are ready to get out and dress up, despite the fact that there have been rising cases. He observed that people are willing to go the extra mile at the various parties he has been attending. Wu could also be described as going that extra mile.
Wu is known for dressing up, however, his approach to the matter has evolved over two years with Covid. He still has a collection of cocktail dresses, but he now prefers recycled polyester taffetas and washed satins to more traditional fabrics. The former is his favorite because of its texture and attitude. “It’s less stuffy, has more life,” said he. He prefers the latter for its techy, modern feel. These fabrics add a touch of elegance to otherwise very precious silhouettes. Wu doesn’t seem to have lost his love for embellishment. You can see the petal-like sleeves of the gowns and the bustline on the tops. But the fabric selections are right for today. His warp printing technique, where individual threads are printed and not whole rolls of fabric, is another reason his party dresses stand out. This technique gave life and depth to the lush watercolor flowers.
