Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe‘s iconic dress would probably be A-OK in the late icon’s book — so says her estate, anyway … flying in the face of what her self-proclaimed biggest fans are saying.
Nick Woodhouse — President/CMO of Authentic Brands Group, which runs Monroe’s estate — tells TMZ … he and his partners believe Marilyn would’ve been thrilled to have seen KK rocking her legendary gown to the Met Gala.
Its presence at the centre of fashion and pop culture so many years later is quite remarkable in ABG’s view — they believe that Monroe would have felt the same.
Kim is the person who will wear the gown again. Woodhouse believes there are many similarities between Kim and Marilyn, namely that they are strong, independent, and powerful entrepreneurs and love to be in front of the camera.
If you are wondering if Kim managed this estate, the answer is yes, but it does not sound like she had. The dress technically belonged to Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum, but ABG claims she did go through all the necessary channels.
Even if Marilyn had come to them to ask for blessings, they said that the company would have given it. The number of shout-outs the Gala has received is overwhelming positive and gives the company a lot of exposure to people who may not remember her.
This is important because a few so-called Marilyn experts, including people who have written documentaries and books about Marilyn, are chirping up about Kim becoming Marilyn Monroe… declaring that she was not worthy and that it was a slap on the face of MM’s memories.
Not so, per ABG. They say Kim made Marilyn’s legacy solid and appreciate their nod.
