A conman from Odisha, allegedly deceived more than 20 businessesmen in the country to the tune Rs 200 cr. by convincing them to franchise electric vehicle showrooms.

Prabhat Kumar Nahak, a Koraput district resident has been identified to be the fraudster.

According to reports, Prabhat Kumar Nahak, a fraudster who claimed to be an official for different brands of electric vehicles, persuaded different businessmen in Haryana, Rajasthan and Bihar to grant them franchises to sell the goods. Prabhat asked them then to pay a deposit into an account for dealer registration fees.

However, after the three-year period following the transfer of funds, no dealers were granted. They could not sell electric cars and they could not get their money back. They realized that the fraudster had duped them.

Subsequently, the helpless businessmen lodged a complaint in the Economic Offence Wing in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

” I was duped by an Odisha conman. In September 2021., I transferred the money to him. Lokesh Bhandari from Uttar Pradesh, said that he has not yet received the electric cars.

” We had filed a complaint at the Economic Offence Wing of Bhubaneswar. We are optimistic that the fraudster would be caught and returned our money,” he stated.
